The University Doctoral Student Council of the University of Silesia in Katowice (URSD), as of 27 February 2026, announces a call for applications for financial support from funds at the disposal of URSD, intended for doctoral activities.

The financial resources are aimed at co-financing initiatives and projects of doctoral organizations intended to activate the doctoral community, improve the quality of scientific research, support the publication of research results, and promote scientific knowledge.

Funding may be requested by doctoral organizations operating within the University of Silesia and bringing together doctoral students from all doctoral schools. Eligible projects may include, among others, the organization of scientific conferences, workshops, discussion panels and lectures; implementation of elements of research projects; activities related to the research process; publication of scientific monographs; activities connected with the publication process; and the purchase of equipment and materials necessary for conducting research. At the same time, the regulations exclude financing, among others, current operational activities of organizations, social campaigns, training trips, reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs, or the purchase of equipment not directly related to research activities.

The maximum amount that may be requested for a single project is PLN 7,000.

Applications must be submitted by 14 March 2026, i.e. within 14 days from the date of the announcement of the call, in PDF format, by sending them to: doktoranci@us.edu.pl. The application form template constitutes Annex No. 1 to the Regulations. Required declarations concerning personal data processing (GDPR) must be attached to the application. In the event of formal deficiencies, URSD will request that the applicant correct them within 7 days.

Applications are evaluated by the URSD committee on the basis of a scoring system including, among others, the substantive quality of the project, justification of the budget, impact on activation of the academic community, influence on scientific outcomes and the University’s image, feasibility of implementation, and the reliability of the application preparation. A condition for obtaining funding is scoring at least 60% of the maximum number of points and involving at least two other doctoral students in project implementation or directing the project to the entire doctoral community of the University.

URSD reserves the right to grant partial funding. Decisions on granting or refusing funding will be communicated electronically. Applicants have the right to appeal to the Rector of the University of Silesia within 14 days of receiving the decision.

Granted funds must be used and settled in accordance with the rules specified in the Regulations. Settlements are made through the appropriate University units, and purchases cannot be made independently. Failure to submit the required report within the specified deadline results in exclusion from applying for funding in the next two editions of the competition.

The competition regulations and application forms are available on the website of the University of Silesia:

We kindly ask you to carefully familiarize yourselves with the regulations and to prepare your projects thoroughly. The number of available funds is limited, and their allocation depends on the evaluation of the URSD competition committee.
