Admission to the International Environmental Doctoral School (IEDS) associated with the Centre for Polar Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice is in accordance with Resolution No. 228 of the Senate of the University of Silesia in Katowice passed on 25 January 2022 concerning recruitment requirements and mode of recruitment.

To enter the qualification procedure, each candidate must:
- create a personal account in irk2.us.edu.pl and fill a form containing relevant declarations and consents;
- submitting through irk2.us.edu.pl the following documents: an authorized copy of master’s degree along with the supplement; curriculum vitae
- outline of PhD project, a list of scientific achievements and documents confirming the list’s authenticity; other documents specified in qualification criteria (the documents should be submitted in the IEDS office or sent to polarknow@us.edu.pl or via the website);

Submit the form and attachments via the IEDS website [>>AVAILABLE SOON<<]; - pay the admission fee of 240,00 PLN.
- Assessment of the PhD project outline (max. 40 points). Candidates who have submitted an outline of the doctoral project together with the supervisor’s opinion within the time specified in the schedule and obtained above 20 points are admitted to further proceedings.
2. Assessment of documented scientific achievements (max. 20 points). Candidates who have submitted the scientific achievements form within the time specified in the schedule will be admitted to further proceedings.
3. Qualification interview (max. 40 points). A candidate who does not enter the interview or receives less than 20 points will not be admitted.
- September 23, 2022 — opening an online registration for candidates through the online candidate registration system (OAS).
- October 14, 2022 — closing of an online registration for candidates, i.e. opening an account in OAS, paying the recruitment fee (the date of the transfer is decisive), entering information and documents listed in § 8 (5) (2-7) of the Resolution No. 228 of the Senate of the University of Silesia in Katowice of 25th January 2022 on recruitment requirements and the mode of recruitment to the International Environmental Doctoral School associated with the Centre for Polar Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice in the academic year 2022/2023, hereinafter referred to as the Resolution.
- October 21, 2022 – deadline for submitting documents referred to in § 8 (5) (10) of the Resolution (outline of the doctoral project, candidate’s academic achievements form, documents confirming academic achievements and other documents specified in the recruitment criteria)
- November 2, 2022 – – providing candidates with information about the results of the 1st and 2nd stage of recruitment and about admission or non-admission to interviews, as well as informing them about the date and place of interviews. This information is sent to the e-mail addresses provided in OAS
- November 7-9, 2022 – interviews with candidates (3rd stage of the recruitment procedure).
- November 10, 2022 – notification of candidates about the recruitment results.
- November 14-18, 2022 – receiving documents from candidates qualified for admission and entering them on the list of doctoral students.
- The maximum number of admitted candidates is 12 (excluding those whose studies will be financed from external sources).
- Based on the results obtained by the candidates in the recruitment procedure, the recruitment committee creates a ranking list. It determines the order of admitting candidates to the doctoral school within the limit of places,
- IEDS admission committee specifies the minimum point limit for admission of candidates from ranking lists.
- A doctoral student who does not hold a degree of doctor shall receive a doctoral scholarship in accordance with Article 209 of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science.

- The qualification procedure is conducted by the admission committee appointed by IEDS Council.
- The admission committee includes representatives of the entities jointly running the IEDS. All committee members hold the academic rank of a Professor or a post-doctoral degree (PhD with Habilitation).
